Shoresh

Hey there future camp buddy,

Shalom! My name is Kevin Bukstein, but my friends at camp just call me Bukstein. I would like to take a little bit of time to talk with you about camp and introduce myself. I am going into my Senior year at University of Colorado at Boulder, and I am studying Psychology and Sociology. I am captain of the diving team, and one of my favorite hobbies is going to concerts.

Some of you might know me from previous summers or from being around our wonderful Jewish communities. If we have never met, let me tell you how unbelievably excited I am to meet you once you arrive at camp. This summer, we will have an amazing opportunity to be part of the best unit in camp, Shoresh, which is Hebrew for “root.”

At camp, we have different units of campers. Shoresh, the best unit by far, is for 3rd - 5th graders. Many of the staff themselves, have been at camp since they were in Shoresh, and they are still at camp today. This is my 11th summer at Camp Interlaken and my 4th year on staff.

I can not tell you enough how excited I am that you will be attending Camp Interlaken JCC. this summer. My anticipation for camp to begin is sooooo great that I can barely sit still. I found myself dancing out of one of my classrooms last week when it ended because I was so excited! At camp, we will have the opportunity to participate in many fun and entertaining Chugim (activities) at camp, such as outdoor cooking, pottery, swimming, model rocketry, omanut (arts and crafts), all kinds of sports, and, my personal favorite, the ropes course. Shoresh also gets to go on a very neat and special day trip to the beach.

I hope that all of you are as excited as I am that camp is coming up soooo soon. I will need all of your help to make this summer the greatest summer of our lives. If you have any questions about this summer, or you just want to say hello, please feel free to send an email to the camp office and they will pass it along to me. The email address is interlaken@jccmilwaukee.org.

Good luck with the rest of your school year, and I will see you soon at Camp Interlaken!!!

B’Shalom,

Kevin Bukstein

Tzomayach

Dear Tzomayach Campers and Parents,

The clock is ticking fast towards a fantastic summer at Camp Interlaken JCC. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce your Tzomayach unit leaders and get you geared up for a great summer! Camp is divided into five units: Shoresh (3rd-5th graders), Tzomayach (6th-8th graders), Sha’ar (9th graders), K’far (10th-11th graders), and Ozrim (12th graders). Tzomayach is the biggest and best unit, but within the unit we are a very tight-knit group. It is our job as unit leaders to ensure a fun and safe summer for everyone.

I, Dana Hertz, will be a junior at Point Park University in Pittsburgh studying dance in the honors program. This will be my second summer at Camp Interlaken, and I am thrilled to be working with the campers and parents of Tzomayach. I am looking forward to another summer of fun and a lifetime of memories.

And I am David Korenthal. I will be a junior at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, double majoring in history and communications. This will be my 11th summer at camp, and I am ecstatic to be returning to all the exciting things that happen at camp. I am looking forward to another unique summer working with everyone and having “Tzo” much fun!

Whether this is your family’s first summer at camp or your fifth, each summer brings new and exciting experiences. We are committed to working hard to providing your child with a safe environment in which he or she can learn new skills, make new friends, and connect with their Judaism. We know there is something for everyone at camp, and we will do our best to help your child be comfortable. Our goal is for your child to return home with the same enthusiasm for camp that brings us back to camp each year.

If you would like to contact us with any questions, comments, concerns, suggestions, or just to say hello, feel free to do so. You can reach email us through the camp office at interlaken@jccmilwaukee.org. You can also call the camp office at (414) 967-8240

See you soon, and get ready to be “startin’ something” this summer!

B’Shalom,

Dana Hertz & David Korenthal

Sha'ar

Hello my splendid Sha’arnicks!

Have you started trying that on for size yet? If you haven’t, take this opportunity to say to yourself, “I am a Sha’arnick”. There, how did that feel? On a scale from one to Sha’fablous, I’d say it should have been about a Sha’fabulous!

Well let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Kat Koslov. This will be my 11th summer being at Camp Interlaken! Some of you may know me from various chugim and other activities! I am almost always on the waterfront because Lake Finley is my favorite lake, and I want to spend as much time as possible on it! When I am not at camp, I attend Winona State University, which is a small university in Minnesota. It is right on the Mississippi River! I am studying social work. I also love to read, watch movies and knit. I love dogs, and I have a 9 year Australian Shepherd named Java.

It has been a freezing winter here in Minnesota, and as I have been bundled up walking to and from class most of the time I think: “Ah! I wish I was at camp!” I am so excited to be in Sha’ar with all of you! Sha’ar is such a great unit because we spend most of our time as a whole unit including meals and even have special Sha’ar only evening programs! We also get to plan and run that special night for all of camp called Campstock!

Every day I am thinking and planning ways to make this the greatest summer of all of your lives! If you have any ideas of things you have liked in the past, or things you would like to do, please let me know! Also if you just want to say hello, feel free to do that too! You can email me through the camp office at interlaken@jccmilwaukee.org.

I cannot wait to see all of you in just a few short months!

Take care and see you soon!!!

Kat Koslov

K'far Noar

Hello all of you wonderful 2008 K'farnicks!!!!!

It is March already, which means camp is only a couple of months away! Soon all of you will be frolicking in Lake Finely by the K'far docks, making breakfast in the Bayit, taking that dark trek through the woods, going on the wilderness trip, rehearsing for the play, planning KTO, and you will be the oldest campers on the Machaneh. Oh yeah, and the past part of all, sleeping in! Yes everyone… welcome to the best summer of your life: K'FAR!!! We hope all of you are as excited as we are for this crazy-awesome-fantabulous summer to start.

Before this summer starts, we thought it would be a good idea to introduce ourselves as your K'far 2008 unit leaders and let you know what to expect for this summer. We, Jake Kavalar and Deb Carneol, have known you now for many years, and we are your enthusiastic unit leaders for the entire summer! We are ecstatic to be able to hang out with such an amazing group of spirited campers, and we cannot wait to get things going.

We have already started planning some amazing programs that you will all soon get to experience. We are introducing some new programs, improving some old, and if you didn't already know, we will let you guys plan a few. Not only do we have some quality programs lined up for you, but we also get to take a three-day wilderness trip! If you haven't signed up for it online yet, PLEASE do that ASAP by going to http://www.wildernessinquiry.org/register/contracttriplist.php. Make sure you select the correct session because Camp Interlaken is listed twice with the dates that correspond to each session. It will be so much fun!

K'far 2008 is going to be, by far, your most memorable and phenomenal summer you will ever have. Secluded from main camp, you will experience things you never thought possible, and you will create amazing memories.

If you guys have any questions about this upcoming summer, please feel free to contact us through the camp office at interlaken@jccmilwaukee.org, and they will forward it to us. We would love to hear from you, whether that is a question or just to say hi. We cannot wait for this summer to finally begin! We are both counting down the days!!!!

GET PUMPED K’FAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With deep Interlaken love,

Jake and Deb
